Yellowstone
Grizzly
A grizzly wanders through the remains of an old fire searching for a meal near Yellowstone Lake. Out of the frame is this female’s cub of the year who is learning to survive by watching and learning. This year in Yellowstone I focused my efforts on capturing images of animals, particularly bears.
Snow
A grizzly mother of two cubs, Snow looks up from a morning meal of elk calf with her offspring just below. In early to mid June, shortly after emerging from the hibernation den, elk calves are an important source of calories and protein for grizzlies.
Bison of Nez Perce Ford
Bison graze near the Nez Perce Ford of the Yellowstone River on a cold mid-June morning. Notice the light dusting of snow from the evening before.
Harlequin Ducks
Harlequin Ducks forage in turbulent water for their meals. Lehardy’s Rapids on the Yellowstone River provide the perfect habitat.
Red Dogs Ford the Madison
Three female bison and their young calves cross the Madison River not far from West Yellowstone.
Long-tailed Weasel

Grizzly Log Walkers
Two grizzly cubs follow their mother across a jumble of logs which have been felled by a forest fire decades ago. The grizzlies that live near the shores of Yellowstone Lake where these fires occurred have become world-class log walkers.
